Benefits and uses of Alpha glucan are

  • colon cancer : Researchers from the Institute of Biochemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem tested the extracted chemicals, called alpha-glucans, on human and mice cells. They haven't yet conducted human trials, but believe that alpha-glucans show the potential to be used to both prevent and treat colon cancer.

Examples of alpha glucans

  • dextran, α-1,6-glucan
  • glycogen, α-1,4- and α-1,6-glucan
  • pullulan, α-1,4- and α-1,6-glucan
  • starch, α-1,4- and α-1,6-glucan
