  • Potato soup is often used as a diarrhea remedy. Other good dietary items include applesauce, cottage cheese and other Organic Raw Certified mild cheeses, rolled oats, and brown rice. Be sure to chew everything thoroughly to get the digestive enzymes going. Also, begin rebuilding intestinal flora by introducing beneficial probiotics such as acidophilus.
  • Apples,in combination with chamomile, shortens the course of unspecific diarrhea in children. Or grate an apple and let it stand at room temperature for several hours until well darkened; this will let out the pectin that is the main ingredient in most common diarrhea medications.
  • pectin increases viscosity and volume of stool so that it is used against constipation and diarrhea. (pectins found in apples : 1–1.5%, apricot : 1%, cherries : 0.4%, oranges : 0.5–3.5%, carrots : 1.4%, citrus peels : 30% )
  • Lactobacillus Acidophilus in yogurt produce bacteriocins which restore natural intestinal culture.
  • Witlof : In Witlof are certain fibers and probiotics that ensure that your body is restored in a natural way. Probiotics such as Witlof contain bacteria that also contain your intestinal flora. They ensure that your intestines are healthier and recover faster from diarrhea. So it is better to eat a plate full of Witlof instead of a biscuit.
  • Take activated charcoal or white clay to absorb toxins in the system. Actually, activated charcoal is a powerful adsorbent that attracts toxins to its surface, as opposed to absorbing them.
  • Put cornmeal into a hot skillet and stir till it is completely parched (medium brown). After it cools, eat about two tablespoons (drinking as little water as you can). It is sand-like and not very pleasant tasting, but this old traditional remedy can help stop diarrhea in only 2-3 hours.
  • In a food blender mix a handful of chopped red radishes, 1 cup of cold Organic Raw Certified milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch. Drink slowly. This remedy can stop diarrhea in less than an hour. Repeat in 4 hours if needed.
  • Among the many other items which have been used for diarrhea are: raw organic honey, lemon juice, carrots and carrot juice, MSM, black pepper, cayenne, carob flour, blueberries, blackberries, garlic, cinnamon, and herbal teas.

  • DON'T: Drink alcohol, caffeinated and sugary beverages.
  • DON'T: Drink Juices made from apple, pear or cherry : They are acidic and high in sorbitol, a sugar composition. Both can worsen diarrhea by stimulating the bowel’s peristalsis. (apple sauce is OK : see above).
  • DON'T: Eat dairy products, spicy and heavily seasoned foods as well as foods very high in fiber.

Warnings

Most cases of diarrhea are nothing more than a brief upset of no great significance. But sometimes diarrhea warns of a serious condition.

Consult your doctor if diarrhea persists in a child for more than 24 hours, or after three days for an adult. Call immediately if you see any of these symptoms:

  • Severe abdominal or rectal pain
  • Blood in your stool
  • Black, tarry stools
  • Fever
  • Signs of dehydration

These diarrhea symptoms can be warning signs of conditions such as infection, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, or even colon cancer.
