Causes

The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. It can be triggered by :

  • Stressful or traumatic events, such as car accidents
  • Repetitive injuries
  • Illnesses such as viral infections
  • Sometimes, fibromyalgia can develop on its own. It can run in families, so genes may play a role in the cause.
  • people with fibromyalgia (FMS) may have low levels of serotonin
  • sleep problems can be a contributing factor in fibromyalgia.
  • aspartame is known to cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and fibromyalgia.
  • Gluten, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, and other unnatural compounds and other common food allergens like soy, particularly when derived from genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), can trigger an inflammatory response in individuals with fibromyalgia

Home remedies

  • Thermotherapy is useful for muscle spasms, myalgia, fibromyalgia, contracture, bursitis.
  • St. John's wort is helpful for those who suffer from fibromyalgia as it ensures better sleep.
  • Malic acid plays a vital role in improving overall muscle performance, reversing muscle fatigue following exercise, reducing tiredness and poor energy levels, as well as improving mental clarity. These actions can make it a beneficial treatment for sufferers of fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
  • Anti-inflammatory foods help to modulate the immune system and reduce inflammatory activity in the body. Great anti-inflammatory foods include coconut products, avocados, olive oil, berries & phytonutrient rich vegetables. Healthy meat sources such as grass-fed beef, wild game, wild salmon, organic poultry, and organic eggs are great if the gut can tolerate them.
  • It is advisable for anyone with chronic inflammation to include loads of organic vegetable juices, fermented foods and functional beverages in their diet. Homemade sauerkraut, kombucha, coconut water, keifir, and kimchi are great. Fermented dairy products from grass-fed cows/goats are highly advisable. These include amasai, fermented whey drinks, & raw cheese. Often times a probiotic supplement with biodiverse range of cultures and over 50 billion colony forming units is advisable.
  • Magnesium produces good results in treating fibromyalgia.
  • Non-denatured whey protein from grass-fed cows is also very good for rebuilding the gut. Whey is loaded with L-glutamine and enhances cellular glutathione stores which are both needed to repair the intestinal wall and de-inflame the body. Powerful herbs such as turmeric, ginger, garlic, onion, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, & oregano, among others, should be used as much as possible to improve immune coordination.
  • Healthy vitamin D3 levels are especially important for aiding the body's ability to recognize foreign and self-proteins. This improved immune recognition reduces inflammation and auto-immune reactions. Vitamin D also helps drive immune cells to destroy pathogenic microbes and prevent & destroy infection. Chronic infection results in hyper-inflammatory levels in the body. Vitamin D3 (25-OH) levels should be between 70-100ng/ml for optimal immune function.
  • Fish Oil : supplementing with high-grade salmon oil, skate liver oil, or a fermented cod liver and butter oil blend, for instance, can provide amazing relief for fibromyalgia sufferers, as these oils help lubricate the muscular system and fortify the body with necessary omega-3 fatty acids, which feed the brain and quell inflammation.
  • Turmeric has been shown in a number of studies to be a safe and effective remedy for treating both arthritis and fibromyalgia symptoms. This is due to its ability not only to halt inflammation, but also to suppress nerve-related pain. From both a neurological and inflammatory standpoint, in other words, turmeric is a powerful weapon in the fight against fibromyalgia.
  • juiced marijuana leaf : Rich in neural-repairing cannabinoids, juiced marijuana leaf can help complete the positive feedback loop in the brain that, when obstructed or damaged, causes chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and various other problems often associated with fibromyalgia.
  • Tuina : A combination of tuina and yoga may benefit people with fibromyalgia
  • Acupuncture is another therapy that can improve free range of motion. According to the John Hopkins Medicine, new data suggest that acupuncture can relieve some of fibromyalgia’s uncomfortable symptoms.
  • Eggs have a lot of nutrients that are recommended for those of us with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
  • Lifestyle changes
    • Getting enough sleep
    • Getting regular physical activity. If you have not already been active, start slowly and gradually increase how much activity you get. You may want to see a physical therapist, who can help you create a plan that is right for you.
    • Learning how to manage stress
    • Eating a healthy diet
    • Learning to pace yourself. If you do too much, it can make your symptoms worse. So you need to learn to balance being active with your need for rest.
  • Talk therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), can help you learn strategies to deal with pain, stress, and negative thoughts. If you also have depression along with your fibromyalgia, talk therapy can help with that too.
  • Complementary therapies have helped some people with the symptoms of fibromyalgia. But researchers need to do more studies to show which ones are effective. You could consider trying them, but you should check with your health care provider first. These therapies include
