Hong Kuai are trees native to the mountains of Taiwan, grow to an enormous height and live for up to 2000 years. It's wood was used in construction for temples and palaces, it’s resistant to insects and fungi and its essential oil has antiseptic properties.

Special Precautions of Hong Kuai

  • Hong Kuai is threatened by extinction : Only use sustainable harvested wood : ‘harvest by nature’ which means only using trees naturally fallen during the monsoon season (the trees are no longer allowed to be clear-cut).

Health Benefits and Uses of Hong Kuai

  • Hong Kuai was traditionally used for respiratory ailments, meditation and to freshen air before the arrival of guests to one’s home.
  • At around 50% it has the highest sesquiterpene content of any essential oil. A high sesquiterpene content tells you that this oil is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, bringing much needed oxygen, and being able to affect the emotional centres of the brain.
