  • If you take rose geranium oil by mouth, stick to food amounts. The safety of the oil when taken in larger amounts is not known.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Rose geranium oil is safe for pregnant and breast-feeding women in food amounts. But larger medicinal amounts should be avoided until more is known.

Benefits and uses of Rose Geranium are

Rose geranium oil contains several chemicals that seem to have antibiotic-like effects. The oil might also have a soothing effect when applied to the skin.

  • Haemostatic : Geranium oil benefits users through its haemostatic ability. A haemostatic is an agent or substance that helps to stop bleeding -- and geranium oil does this effectively. Valerie Worwood writes in her text, “The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy” that geranium oil can be used to help treat minor cuts and also to help regulate menstrual bleeding.
  • Antiseptic : A natural antiseptic, geranium oil disinfects wounds and also helps treat illnesses such as a sore throat. To treat a sore throat, Patricia Davis suggests gargling with a mouthwash containing geranium oil. Generally not irritating to the skin, to clean minor wounds, geranium oil can be applied directly to the wound. Some wounds are difficult to treat as they become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. In such cases, geranium oil is helpful and even recommended, according to a study in the November 2013 issue of "Burns." Researchers state that geranium oil is particularly helpful in healing wounds that have recurring infection.
  • Improve Mood and Reduce Stress : Geranium oil has natural anti-depressant and stress relieving properties. While it should not take the place of professional mental health care, Julie Lawless writes in “The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils” that geranium oil uplifts mood and also helps to calm anxiety and nervous tension brought on by stress. To take advantage of these benefits try including geranium oil in a bath or spread it through the air with an aerosol diffuser.
  • Insect Repellent : In addition to all of its health and mental benefits, geranium oil also naturally repels insects. To keep your home free of mosquitoes and other winged insects, spray geranium oil throughout the room. To maximize the effects, Patricia Davis recommends combining with bergamot, lemon or citronella. The May 2013 issue of the "Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry" reports that geranium oil works as a tick repellent, and you don't need as much of it to work as you do the harsh chemicals in commercial repellents.
  • Hemorrhoids : Essential oils for hemorrhoids-treatment : lavender oil, tea tree oil, Cypress Oil, peppermint oil, geranium oil, camphor oil.
