It is characterised by a chronic burning pain and hypersensitivity in the area supplied by that nerve. The sympathetic nerve supply of the involved area is believed to be important in the cause of Causalgia. The sympathetic nervous system is a network of nerves (separate from the set of nerves controllinng voluntary activities) which controls a lot of bodily functions (like our heart rate, intestinal activity) as well as being important in pain perception and skin blood supply.== Causes ==Causalgia is thought to be due to partial nerve injury that allows for cross-stimulation at the area of injury within the nerve.
