Health Benefits and Uses of Capillary Wormwood

Yin Chen Hao and Qing Hao are bitter and cold and have a light, fragrant smell.

  • Both are commonly used for transforming Damp-Heat, eliminating Exterior Damp-Heat and treating symptoms such as heaviness of the head, body and limbs, a sense of constriction in the chest, nausea, loss of appetite, distension in the abdomen and intermittent fever and chills. These symptoms are often seen in sunstroke, summer cold infections, influenza, acute enteritis and dysentery.
  • Both of them can clear Damp-Heat from the Liver and Gall Bladder and relieve jaundice in hepatitis or malaria, in which Damp-Heat accumulates in the Middle Jiao and disturbs the secretion of bile.
  • These two herbs can also reduce low-grade fever and are used for Interior disorders, but the functions and applications are different.
  • Yin Chen Hao is also the most important herb for relieving jaundice when Damp-Heat obstructs the bile secretion and the bile is pressed into the Blood. Therefore it is often used for treating acute hepatitis, cholecystolithiasis, angiocholitis, cholecystitis and hemolytic jaundice.
  • fatty Liver : scoparone, scopoletin, chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid, and umbelliferone. These constituents are effective for liver dysfunctions like fatty liver.
  • Hepatitis : Scoparone, scopoletin, isochlorogenic acid, and pumilaside A are effective for hepatitis including steatohepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, and viral hepatitis.
  • Liver cirrhosis: scoparone, capillartemisin, capillarisin, scopoletin, isoscopoletin, artepillin, p-hydroxyacetophenone, esculetin, and β-sitosterol are effective for liver cirrhosis
  • Liver Cancer : scoparone, capillartemisin, capillarisin, capillin, scopoletin, isoscopoletin, artepillin, p-hydroxyacetophenone, esculetin, isochlorogenic acid, and quercetin are effective in liver cancer.
