Special Precautions of Scutellaria Barbata

  • Adverse effects may include nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, vomiting, constipation, fatigue, and headache.
  • Use cautiously in patients taking sedatives and/or operating heavy machinery.
  • Use cautiously in patients taking therapies for cancer, especially cyclophosphamide.
  • Use cautiously in patients taking therapies broken down by the liver.
  • Avoid in patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, due to a lack of scientific evidence.

The benefits of Scutellaria Barbata are

  • Scutellaria barbata has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat several illnesses including certain types of cancer. Researchers at the University of Salford found that the extract of Scutellaria barbata (Skullcap barbat) starves tumors. It attacks the blood vessels feeding the tumor, blocking the availability of oxygen and nutrients that allow tumors to grow. The extract is very selective in targeting only blood vessels associated with the tumor, leaving normal vessels that feed healthy tissue unharmed.
  • Past studies have shown that Scutellaria has potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, which come primarily from natural plant chemicals (phytochemicals) called flavonoids.
