This large parasol-shaped tree, 6 to 24 meters high, with flat and crowned evergreen leaves, is native to Southern Africa, Africa the East, of the Mascarenes and particularly of Madagascar. Roots, trunk and fruits produce a hard resin (Copal) used like incense. The flowers are yellowish and the fruits are unique. These are hard and dotted on the outside with resin bubbles. They are reddish green when ripe, but smell brown on the terra
