This large parasol-shaped tree, 6 to 24 meters high, with flat and crowned evergreen leaves, is native to Southern Africa, Africa the East, of the Mascarenes and particularly of Madagascar. Roots, trunk and fruits produce a hard resin (Copal) used like incense. The flowers are yellowish and the fruits are unique. These are hard and dotted on the outside with resin bubbles.
