It that may be external or internal and usually is a pyogenic (typically near the staphylococcal) infection or abscess. Most hordeola are external and result from obstruction and infection of an eyelash follicle and lives on the outside adjacent glands of the eyelidZeis or Moll glands. A chalazion Follicle obstruction may be associated with blepharitis . An internal hordeolum, which is a blocked oil gland that appears on the inside of the eyelidvery rare, usually surfacing as results from infection of a bumpmeibomian gland. Sometimes cellulitis accompanies hordeola.
