Infectious mononucleosis (mono) is widely known as the "kissing disease" even though this label is only partly true. Kissing can indeed spread the virus, but more commonly transmission occurs through coughing, sneezing, or sharing a cup. Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Mono is most common in adolescents and young adults.<br>
