==Special Precautions of Wintergreen==
* Despite its usefulness as a pain relieverContains methyl salicylate: In pure form, methyl salicylate is harmful, be very careful when using wintergreen oiltaken orally. Methyl A single teaspoon (5 ml) of methyl salicylate contains approximately 6 g of salicylate, which is extremely TOXICequivalent to almost 20 aspirin tablets. * Never ingest this essential oil, even diluted preparations of it. Whether topically or vaporized,use it in moderation, and diluted with a safe carrier oil. * Never use Gultharia essential oil internally and always ensure that you use this oil in a diluted form for topical application
*The oil is UNSAFE to take by mouth. Taking wintergreen oil or large amounts of wintergreen leaf can cause ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, stomach pain, and confusion.
*When applied directly to the skin, wintergreen oil can cause skin irritation.
