Shingles
Other Names : Herpes zoster
Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. Anyone who's had chickenpox may develop shingles. After you recover from chickenpox, the virus can enter your nervous system and lie dormant for years. Eventually, it may reactivate and travel along nerve pathways to your skin — producing shingles.

Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of shingles usually affect only a small section of one side of your body. These signs and symptoms may include:

  • Pain, burning, numbness or tingling
  • Sensitivity to touch
  • A red rash that begins a few days after the pain
  • Fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over
  • Itching

Home remedies

While the virus may be self-limiting, it is important that you have ways and means to stay comfortable throughout the uncomfortable period of illness. What are some of the natural remedies that could help you recover and deal with the itch? Here are 7 natural treatment remedies to help you or your loved one get through Shingles.

  • Cool Wet Compresses : Applying cool, wet compresses will help lessen your pain and itch. This will help you find relief from the symptom of pain. You apply this when necessary or whenever you feel like you cannot anymore tolerate the pain and itch. This will also help clean your body which is very important when you have shingles, so as to prevent the blisters in your body from being infected.
  • Oatmeal or starch baths :Oatmeal and starch baths can also relieve you from the discomfort of the pain brought about by the ulcers and itchiness on your body. Not only is this a natural remedy but this is also a cheap alternative if you can’t afford to buy topical pain relievers. Not only did you save money but you also saved yourself from the pain and discomfort.
  • Vitamin B12 : Taking Vitamin B-complex or Vitamin B12 is good for your health especially for your nerves. If Ranunculus is the Rolls Royce, then Rhus tox is the Cadillac of remedies that relieves the fearsome itching and pains accompanying this condition. Warnings

This reactivated, more virulent form of varicella virus can damage nerves enough to develop into postherpetic neuralgia, which rephrased in layperson's language is "after herpes came intense nerve pain." Acute and chronic peripheral nerve pain may exist in the areas where the shingles skin lesions are located. The consequences can be lethal.
