Soft Tissue Release, or Myofascial Release, is therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. Soft Tissue Release relaxes contracted muscles, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulates stretch reflex in muscles. It is a technique of assisted stretching of muscle fibres, tendon and fascia. STR involves repeatedly and quickly stretching small areas of the soft tissue. Precise pressure is applied to part of the muscle which is then moved to achieve a very specific stretch.
