*Cholesterol : The pthalides in celery may also lower cholesterol by increasing bile acid secretion.
* Heart Health – Celery contains compounds that help to prevent atherosclerosis. And celery also helps to prevent inflammation of the cardiovascular system thus helping to prevent heart attacks.
*Cancer : Celery contains coumarins which have been shown to be effective in the prevention of cancer. One study showed that eating celery might help fight cancer because it contains luteolin. And another study showed that celery can prevent the onset of breast cancer. Celery also contains an anti-cancer compound called [[apigenin]], which has been effective at causing apoptosis (cell suicide) in numerous types of cancer cells. The food has been found to be extremely effective at killing ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, breast, liver, and lung cancer cells. In fact, in a recent study, celery killed up to 86% of cancer cells in the lungs (in vitro).
* Diuretic : Celery has been used as a diuretic for centuries. Its diuretic effect comes from its balance of potassium and sodium which helps to flush out excess fluid from the body.
