Special Precautions of Bean Pod

  • There is some evidence that bean pod extracts might be safe for most adults when used for two or three months. However, large amounts of fresh bean husks probably aren't safe. Raw husks contain chemicals that can cause stomach upset, vomiting, and diarrhea. Cooking destroys these chemicals.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of bean pod during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
  • Diabetes: Bean pod may lower blood sugar. If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar closely. The dose of your diabetes medications may need to be adjusted by your healthcare provider.
  • Surgery: Bean pod might affect blood sugar levels, so there is some concern that it might interfere with blood sugar control during and after surgery. Stop taking bean pod at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
  • Medications for diabetes (Antidiabetes drugs) interacts with bean Pod.

Benefits and uses of Bean Pod are

  • High cholesterol. There is some evidence that a bean pod and carob extract might modestly lower cholesterol levels in obese people and increase the amount of fat that leaves the body in the stool.
  • Obesity. Two studies have looked at whether bean pod is helpful for losing weight, but their results don’t agree. One study found that taking a specific bean pod extract (Phase 2, Pharmachem Labs) increases weight loss when taken by slightly overweight people on a calorie-restricted diet. These people lost about six pounds more than other people on a diet who didn’t take bean pod. But in a different study, obese people taking a high dose of this extract didn’t lose weight over an 8-week period.
