  • Some cataracts is caused by corticosteroids or injury or irradiation to the eye for a tumor.

Home remedies

  • The use of carrots is considered beneficial in the treatment of cataract. Take plenty of raw carrots daily or else drink two glasses of fresh carrot juice, one each in the morning and evening.
  • Eat two or three cloves of raw garlic daily to clean the crystalline lens of the eye. The cloves should be chewed slowly.
  • Extract the juice of pumpkin flowers and apply externally on the eyelids twice daily to prevent further clouding of the crystalline lens.
  • Grapes are used to treat constipation, indigestion, fatigue, kidney disorders, Macular Degeneration and prevention of cataract.
  • Mix an equal quantity of aniseed and coriander powder together with one teaspoon of brown sugar, and take the mixture in doses of 12 grams in the morning and evening.
  • Place a few drops of raw organic honey in the eyes twice or more each day. This is an ancient Egyptian remedy which is reported to have benefited many people with cataracts.
  • Finely grind seven kernels of raw almonds together with half a gram of black pepper and place in a half cup of water. Sweeten with raw honey and drink the mixture to help the eyes regain vigor and clarity.
  • Twice daily, close your eyes and bathe them with hot (but not scalding) water containing Epsom salts. In addition, take an Epsom salts bath at least twice a week. Remain in the bath from twenty-five to thirty-five minutes till you perspire freely. After the bath, cool off gradually.
  • Bilberry is used for glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataracts.
  • Eyebright has been used for centuries in the treatment of a number of ailments. The nutritional and herbal ingredients make it beneficial for many eye problems including ophthalmia (severe inflammation of the eye), blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), conjunctivitis (pink eye), cataracts, stye, weeping eye, and bloodshot or strained eyes (http://www.herballegacy.com/Herbal_Eyebright.html).

  • N-Acetyl-Carnosine (NAC) eye drops
  • triphala tea eyewashes performed two to three times daily. It's been used successfully for cataracts, glaucoma, pink or red eye, and dry eye.
  • Some glaucoma sufferers use cannabis for effective relief from acute episodes of pain and impaired vision.
  • drinking a shot of strong wheatgrass juice daily along with the eyewashes. A study showed 25 to 40 percent improvement in cataract impaired canines from taking wheatgrass juice orally for one month.
  • 1/3 teaspoon of Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar mixed in four ounces of distilled water for drops or eyewash. Hold with eyes closed for two minutes two or three times daily.
  • A Chinese botanical combination called Shihu-Yeguang might be available wherever acupuncture is taught or done professionally. Five bottles of five pills twice a day for a month is a common treatment round.
  • Ginkgo increases blood flow to the brain and ocular area is also recommended
  • Antioxidants including vitamin C are important for reversing deteriorating eye health.
  • Avoid processed unsaturated trans-fatty acid hydrogenated oils. Consume only good wholesome unsaturated or saturated fats. Disregard the cholesterol propaganda. Make sure you get your fair share of omega-3 fatty acids. Your eyes, brain, and nerve sheathes are composed of fats, including cholesterol.
  • Add organic veggie juicing and/or green smoothies while avoiding processed foods and beverages.
