Various foods, drinks, herbs and spices correspond to each chakra. This is based on the color frequency that each chakra represents, as well as the element which it relates to and its associated qualities and energies.

Eating foods that correspond to each chakra will assist with clearing, cleansing, activating and rejuvinating these energy centers. Choosing to include more of these types of food and liquids into your diet on a regular and long-term basis will keep the chakra system in balance and benefit overal mind-body and spirit health.

  • The Root Chakra (Muladhara) :
    • Any Red or dark brown colored food or drink.
    • Any foods that have an earthy taste or a 'grounding' quality.
    • Root vegetables: carrots, potatoes, turnips, parsnips, radishes, beets, onions, garlic, etc.
    • Protein-rich foods: eggs, meats, beans, tofu, soy products, almond or peanut butter.
    • Herbs & Spices: Burdock, Cloves/clover, Dandelion, Rosemary, horseradish,hot paprika, chives, cayenne, pepper.
  • The Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana):
    • Any Orange colored foods.
    • Any foods related to water or with a high water content, and those that benefit the reproductive system or that nourishe the sexual/creativity center.
    • Fats and oils, Fish (especially wild salmon).
    • Nuts & Seeds: almonds, walnuts, pastachios, cashews, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, etc,.
    • Sweet & Tropical fruits: melons, mangos, strawberries, passion fruit, oranges, tangerines, coconut, etc., Honey is also beneficial.
    • Herbs & Spices: Coriander, Calendula, Fennel, Gardenia, Licorice, cinnamon, vanilla, carob, sweet paprika, sesame seeds, caraway seeds.
  • The Solar Chakra (Manipura):
    • Any Yellow or Gold colored foods.
    • Any foods that benefits the liver and aids digestion, and those that boosts energy or self esteem.
    • Foods rich in complex carbohydrates (fiber, whole grains, legumes, etc)
    • Granola and Grains: pasta, breads, cereal, rice, oats, rice, flax or hemp seed, millet, spelt, sunflower seeds, etc.
    • Herbs & Spices: Anise, Celery, Cinnamon, Lily of the Valley, Marshmallow, Mints, ginger, mints (peppermint, spearmint, etc.), melissa, turmeric, cumin, fennel
    • Dairy products: milk, yogurt, cheese
  • The Heart Chakra (Anahata):
    • Any Green colored herb, spice or food.
    • Any foods that benefits the heart and blood, or any warming or comforting foods that one particularly enjoys or loves. • Leafy vegetables: spinach, kale, dandelion greens, chard, etc.
    • Raw foods and foods rich in chlorophyll; plant compounds like phytoestrogens and phytosterois.
    • Herbs & Spices: Cayenne, Hawthorn berries, Jasmine, Lavender, Marjoram, Rose, basil, sage, thyme, cilantro, parsley
    • Airy vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, squash, etc., Green Tea is also beneficial.
  • The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha):
    • Any Blue colored foods.
    • Any foods that benefit the lungs or that soothes the throat or voice.
    • Variety of foods; Ethnic or exotic foods.
    • Herbs & Spices: Coltsfoot, Peppermint, Red clover blossoms, Sage, salt, lemon grass
    • Tart or tangy fruits/tree growing fruits: lemons, limes, grapefruit, kiwi / apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots, etc.
    • Liquids in general: water, fruit juices, herbal teas (especially chamomile and red clover); sea plants, foods with high water content, soups and sauces.
  • The Brow Chakra (Ajna):
    • Any Indigo or dark bluish colored foods.
    • Any herb, spice or food that benefit the mind, nervous system, and eyes/vision, and those that strongly enhance or awaken the senses.
    • Herbs & Spices: Eyebright, Juniper, Mugwort, Poppy, Rosemary,lavender, poppy seed, mugwort
    • Caffeine; Chocolate
    • Herbs/Spices: eyebright, juniper, Mugwort, poppy, rosemary, lavender, poppy seed, mugwort
    • Liquids: red wines and grape juice, and herbal teas: Mint, Star anise, eyebright, gotu kola, lavender
  • The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara):
    • Any violet, purple or white colored foods.
    • Any foods that are considered holistically healing or sacred, or those that have spiritual cleansing or energizing benefit.
    • Herbs & Spices: Gotu Kola, Lavender, Lotus
    • Spirit or Prana; sunlight, air and Love
    • Fasting / Detoxing
    • Incense and Smudging Herbs: sage, copal, myrrh, frankincense, and juniper (only to be consumed in raw, natural form in small quantities, otherwise used for ritual, ceremony or cleansing purposes espcially during a fast).
