Corydalis is a plant. People use the tuber and root for medicine. Corydalis yanhusuo is one of the most common types of corydalis used in herbal medicine.
Special Precautions of Corydalis
- It is not known if using corydalis is safe. When too much is taken, corydalis can cause spasms and muscle tremors.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: It’s UNSAFE to take corydalis if you are pregnant. It might start your period and cause the uterus to contract. This could cause a miscarriage.
- Breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the safety of using corydalis if you are breast-feeding. It’s best to avoid using it.
The benefits of Corydalis are
- Mild depression.
- Mental and emotional disturbances.
- Severe nerve damage.
- Tremors.
- High blood pressure.
- Intestinal spasms.
- Chronic pain : Corydalis may help relieve neuropathic pain, according to a number of studies on rats. A type of pain associated with nerve damage, neuropathic pain is often experienced by people with diabetes.
- Anxiety : In a rat-based study published in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Journal in 2011, tests on rats demonstrated that tetrahydropalmatine (a compound found in Corydalis yanhusuo) may have anxiety-reducing effects.
- Heart Health : A preliminary study published in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology in 2007 indicates that Corydalis yanhusuo may help protect against heart failure following a heart attack. In tests on rats, scientists observed that Corydalis yanhusuo may help improve cardiac function.
- Cancer : A combination of Corydalis yanhusuo and turmeric may have anti-cancer benefits, according to a study published in Oncology Reports in 2009. Although tests on cells determined that the combination of Corydalis yanhusuo and turmeric may help inhibit the growth and spread of cancer, more research is needed before Corydalis yanhusuo can be recommended for cancer prevention or treatment.
