Other names : Coral Tree.
Erythrina addisoniae grows up to 20 meters tall and is very similar to Erythrina thaloniana (up to 12 m tall). Erythrina addisoniae occurs in Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

Health benefits and uses of Erythrina addisoniae

  • The bark and roots have similar medicinal applications as those of Erythrina vogelii.
  • In traditional medicine, Erythrina species are used to treat cancer.
  • Unspecified plant parts, probably bark and/or roots, are used in traditional medicine in Côte d’Ivoire, to treat pains, rheumatism, bronchial complaints, gonorrhoea and haematuria, and as poison antidote.
  • An anti-inflammatory isoflavonoid (warangalone) has been isolated from the stem bark, as well as protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitors.
  • Influenza : a stilbenoid with inhibitory activity on viral neuraminidases was isolated from Erythrina addisoniae.
