Genmaicha Tea is the Japanese name used to describe green tea combined with roasted brown rice. Originally this tea was used because the rice served as filler and reduced the price of the tea. When the green sencha tea leaves are being dried, rice is added and as the kernel roast, some of the grains pop, resembling popcornGenmaicha Green Tea is used to cleanse the palate and enhance the flavor of food. The tea is lower in caffeine than other green teas.
