Symptoms

Always remember to seek medical attention at the earliest opportunity, because a snake bite victim should get antivenin as soon as possible. These techniques are virtually guaranteed to help a victim dramatically, but they may not be enough to save a person from a fatal snake bite.

Home remedies

  • Activated charcoal (also known as activated carbon) is the best overall general purpose toxin filtration agent in existence
  • Echinacea is an excellent emergency remedy for purifying the blood following bites by poisonous spiders and snakes.
  • Bentonite clay is known to remove toxins, and is also advised for treating spider bites.
  • Chelation Therapy is used as a treatment for metal poisoning, including acute mercury, iron (including in cases of thalassemia), arsenic, lead, uranium, plutonium and other forms of toxic metal poisoning. The chelating agent may be administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or orally, depending on the agent and the type of poisoning.
  • Coriander : Cilantro is most often cited as being effective for heavy metal cleansing and rightfully so, this herb is a powerful, natural cleansing agent. The chemical compounds in cilantro bind to heavy metals and loosen them from the tissue. Many people suffering from mercury exposure report a reduction in the often-cited feeling of disorientation after consuming large and regular amounts of cilantro over an extended period.
  • Bignay : The leaves have been used in alternative medicines by Asian physicians to treat snake bites.
  • Holy Basil is an antidote to snake and scorpion bites.
  • Basil is used for snake and insect bites.
  • Gymnema Sylvestre is used as a snake bite antidote.
  • Black Cohosh : The juice of the plant was used as an insect repellent and was made into a salve and applied to snake bites.
  • Butcher's Broom : Scientists have discovered that sparteine, one of the main components in butcher's broom, inhibits the proteins in snake venom and thus is a potent treatment for detoxification of some snake bites.
  • Zi Hua Di Ding is an age-old remedy for snake bites (to help reduce both swelling and toxicity).
  • Purslane leaves are used to treat insect or snake bites on the skin, boils, sores, pain from bee stings, bacillary dysentery, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, postpartum bleeding, and intestinal bleeding.
  • Tamarix Gallica
  • Black Stone : Thanks to its absorptive quality, works to neutralize the fatal effects of snakebite.
  • Annatto
  • Fagonia Cretica : An earlier study in National Products Research reported that the herbal remedy was effective in eliminating and neutralizing the activity of snake venom. While Fagonia cretica has been used by herbalists in the past for snake bites, the authors of the recent study noted that their finding "provides a scientific basis for the use of F cretica in traditional medicine for the treatment of snake bite."
  • Healing Saint : St. Benedict
