Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by a parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. It is one of the most common parasites, found all over the world. It is found in contaminated soil, uncooked meat — especially pork, venison and lamb — and cat feces. Toxoplasma can thrive in the human body for long periods of time, sometimes for an entire lifetime. But most people with the infection don’t show any symptoms because their immune systems usually defend the body from the parasite and prevent it from causing illness. However, toxoplasmosis can be severe in people with a weakened immune system and may cause serious complications.

Natural remedies for Toxoplasmosis

  • Berberine : Research has evaluated the ability of berberine, a natural plant alkaloid, to inhibit Toxoplasma gondii.
  • Garlic : Garlic has allicin, which fights several types of bacteria and viruses and is also toxic to the toxoplasmosis parasite.
  • Artemisia annua extracts have an inhibiting effect on Toxoplasma.
  • Artificial supplementation of melatonin and zinc should be considered as an adjunctive therapy to classic treatment of Toxoplasma retinochoroiditis especially in immunosuppressed and elderly patients if our data are confirmed in a clinical setting.
