Fucoidan (Fc) is a sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharide that is present in high levels in brown seaweed (brown Algae) and has been shown to have anticancer and antioxidant effects in animal experiments. see also :

Special Precautions of Fucoidan

  • Don't confuse with Fucoxanthin (Fx) : Fucoxanthin (Fx) is a red-orange carotenoid that is extracted from natural seaweed. It has been reported to have a potential in improving obesity and having anti-cancer effects.

The benefits of Fucoidan are

Fucoidan, an active ingredient in Limu Moui, is a powerful complex polysaccharide that supports nearly every system in the body.

  • Studies have shown that it not only supports liver function, which is necessary for blood detoxification and weight control
  • Cancer : stimulates proper cellular growth and division. The implication for appropriate cellular division is a great benefit to consider because of the ever increasing cancer rates (cancer can begin as the result of improper cellular division). The August 2009 issue of the "Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry" reported that fucoidan induced the death of human breast cancer cells; it had no effect on healthy breast cells. A separate study, reported in the August 2010 issue of "BMC Gastroenterology," found that fucoidan induced the death of human colon cancer cells. Both studies were carried out using isolated cells in the laboratory. Further studies are warranted to check whether these effects would be replicated in the human body.
  • Diabetes : Fucoidan has also been shown to support blood glucose levels; this helps to keep the body within normal ranges, which would prove a true benefit to those suffering from Diabetes Mellitus (Type II Diabetes) or those considered to be pre-diabetic. The combination of Fucoidan and Fucoxanthin treatment has been reported to have a role in improving the glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism in the type II diabetes mouse model, as well as in improving the ventricular rhythm and muscular function of the aging mouse model.
  • Enhanced hormone functions have also been observed in individuals taking in fucoidan. In addition, fucoidan has been indicated in enhancing immune, circulatory and digestive functions.
  • It is even known to increase energy and enhance a person's skin appearance.
  • lymphoma : Seaweed extracts hold promise of a new treatment approach for the tens of thousands of people who have been or who will be diagnosed with lymphoma.
