Jaundice is caused by a buildup of bilirubin, a waste material, in the blood. An inflamed liver or obstructed bile duct can lead to jaundice, as well as other underlying conditions.

Causes

  • Inflammation of the bile duct
  • Inflammation of the liver
  • Gilbert’s syndrome
  • Obstruction of the bile duct
  • Hemolytic anemia
  • Cholestasis

Symptoms

Symptoms include a yellow tinge to the skin and whites of the eyes, dark urine, and itchiness.

Home remedies

  • Shilajit was used as treatment for diabetes, gallstones, kidney stones, heart disease, anemia, anxiety, ulcers, asthma, arthritis, epilepsy and jaundice.
  • Common Knotgrass : Medicated soup with Polygonum aviculare and fermented soya beans is taken orally to treat jaundice.
  • Watercress : In Chinese medicine, watercress is thought to help reduce tumors, improve night vision, and stimulate bile production (improving digestion and settling intestinal gas). It’s used as a remedy for jaundice, urinary difficulty, sore throat, mumps, and bad breath.
  • Triphala
  • Dandelion is used to treat hepatitis, kidney, and liver disorders such as kidney stones, jaundice, and cirrhosis
