Tetanus, also called lockjaw, is a serious infection caused by Clostridium tetani. This bacterium produces a toxin that affects the brain and nervous system, leading to stiffness in the muscles.

Symptoms

These are the most common symptoms of tetanus:

  • Stiff jaw (also called lockjaw)
  • Stiff abdominal and back muscles
  • Contraction of the facial muscles
  • Fast pulse
  • Fever
  • Sweating
  • Painful muscle spasms, especially near the wound area (if these affect the throat or chest wall, breathing may be stopped)
  • Trouble swallowing

Natural Treatments

  • Black Cumin : Inhaling the vapor of black seed oil and hot water can help against facial paralysis and tetanus, and eliminates their causes, insha Allaah.
  • Ledum latifolium : Expectorant, diuretic, pectoral : Useful for colds, asthma, bronchial, tuberculosis, and pulmonary problems. Externally, used for eczema, acne, erythema nodosum, gout, rheumatism, stings, tetanus, tinnitus (ringing of the ears), wounds, boils, bruises, deafness, ear inflammations, prickly heat, scabby dandruff.
  • Siler Root has also been employed as a remedy for tetanus, lockjaw and general convulsions.
  • Patchouly Oil : Rubbing a bit of patchouli essential oil on a wound, cut, or abrasion can disinfect the area and prevent it from getting infections such as tetanus.
  • Pleurotus Eryngii mushroom has antibacterial properties. There are very many diseases that are caused by bacteria including cholera and tetanus.
  • Dan Nan Xing : Muscle spasms and cramps, infantile convulsions, seizures, facial paralysis, tetanus and stroke
  • Black Mulberry : treating Tetanus with oral doses of the mulberry tree sap blended with sugar also showed notable improvement of the condition.
  • Elemi : Most likely, it was the antiseptic property of the Essential Oil of Elemi which made it beneficial in the embalming process in ancient Egypt. The antiseptic property safeguards against every possible infection, which includes those from microbes, bacteria, fungi, and viruses, together with offering safety from septic and tetanus
  • Salvia Sclarea : Antiseptic: Wounds will not become septic, nor will they be infected with tetanus germs if Clary Sage oil is topically applied to them. The antiseptic qualities can protect the body during periods of surgical recovery and in all varieties of wounds that are typically hotspots for infections.
  • Davana is an Antiseptic: Davana essential oil fights infections that cause septic of internal and external wounds, urinary tracts, urethra, kidneys, and other body parts. It also provides protection against conditions like tetanus.
  • Niaouli : The essential oil of Niaouli, thanks to its antiseptic properties, can inhibit bacterial growth in those areas and gives good protection against sepsis, tetanus, and infections of the other internal organs.
  • Jin Ying Zi decoction can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, tetanus, leptospira and influenza virus.
  • Silverweed boiled in a cup of milk, has been recommended as an effective remedy in tetanus, or lockjaw. The tea should be drunk as hot as possible.

Warnings

  • Tetanus is an acute disease of the central nervous system. It is sometimes fatal. It is caused by the toxin of the bacterium clostridium tetani.
  • The bacterium clostridium tetani usually enters the body through an open wound.
  • Tetanus bacteria live in soil and manure. It can also be found in the human intestine and other places.
  • Symptoms of tetanus may include stiffness in the jaw and the abdominal and back muscles. It may also cause a fast pulse, fever, sweating, painful muscle spasms, and trouble swallowing.
  • The tetanus vaccine can reduce the risk of the disease after an injury.
  • Tetanus requires medical care right away. Treatment may include medicines and antitoxin injections.
