Tonsillitis and Pharyngitis

Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils. Pharyngitis is the name given to inflammation of the pharynx. Both have as their main symptom a Sore Throat.

Symptoms

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils most commonly caused by viral or bacterial infection. Symptoms of tonsillitis include Sore Throat, fever, white or yellow patches on the tonsils, tender, stiff, and/or swollen neck, painful or difficult swallowing, cough, headache, sore eyes, body aches, otalgia, chills, nasal congestions

Home remedies

  • Gargle throat with salt water (do not swallow afterwards)
  • raw Carrot, beet, cucumber or juice from it : The recommended proportion is 3 cups carrots to 1 cup beets to 1 cup cucumber.
  • lemon juice and honey
  • ginger is one of the best remedies If the reason for tonsillitis is a virus infection.
  • Onion
  • turmeric is effective especially when the cause of the tonsillitis is bacterial infection
  • fenugreek : simmer fenugreek seeds in hot water for about half an hour. The water is then set aside and allowed to cool. The fenugreek water is then used for gargling.
  • Chamomile tea is not just effective in treating tonsillitis; it is also good for other diseases related to tonsillitis, such as strep throat and common sore throat.
  • Figs are useful for tonsils when applied externally at the area of the throat. Boiled figs are made into a paste and then applied on the area.
  • South African Geranium : When given to 6-10 year olds with sore throat and swollen tonsils, South African geranium extract seems to significantly reduce pain and difficulty swallowing after 4 days of treatment.
  • essential Oils : Cinnamon oil, Thyme oil, Lemongrass oil, Marjoram oil, and Winter Savory oil had the greatest antibiotic activity against the tonsillitis bacteria S. pyogenes
